Best ~ $125 ATI Video Card - AGP

Ok,
I've been using ATI Cards for a while, from my 7000 thru the 9250.
Love my PCI TV Wonder.

Now I need a new card for some light game playing - my 6 yo want's to
play Lego Star Wars!!

My old 7000 went south, and I thru an old 3D/FX card in that system...
Can't believe thoose drivers really work with XP...

I am confused by the new number/name scheme used by ATI.

I need an AGP card, hopefully street around $125 give or take.

I would figure the 'higher' the model number, the newer - faster- etc.
- but it doesn't quite look that way.... I've looked around, but can't
get a clear idea what the model numbers mean...

Any help out their??

A 9800Pro or XT sounds about right.

Avoid the POS 9800SE.

As the other poster said, Saphire makes the most affordable 9800 on
Newegg. I don't know anything about them, so can't comment on quality.

In any case, look at warantee and user feedback before deciding on what
brand to buy.

The higher the fillrate and bandwidth, the better.

I would get, on a budget, a "build by ati" 9800xt or a pro version
whit a 256megs of video ram, or a xt version with 256 mb of video ram.
It was a big card a few years ago but it still a good card.

That (9800) sounds good .... ?? Better then the X700 128 MB I can get
for $125??

Some games, but video editing / transcoding??

It's a lot better than a straight X700 non-pro. And only a little worse than
an X700 Pro at resolutions above 1024x768. At 1024x768 or below they're the
same.

i do not agree the x700-pro is way better than the 9800pro. And you
will see the differrence at high resolution like 1280x720 and more
because of the better frame rate. my old 9800pro build by ati was
scoring around 2500 at 3dmark05 vr120. And now with the x700pro i'm
getting 3064. So its a little bit better and it has all the new
feature that the 9800pro doesn't Like HDtv, dxva, pixel shader, mesh
shader 2.b

Also your experience will vary whit the brand that you've chose. So
your better stick with the pro like cards build by ati or nvdia.

What's funny in that story is that sapphire have put on a big heat
sink and a more bigger fan to cool the video card. This is certain
that they have to do so because everyone will have to OC that VC just
to get to stock speed of the regular video card from ati.

OK, is the x800 or x850 a better deal?? (do BOTH come AGP??)

Will the x1300 be even better?? AGP available??

Life used to be so much more simple.... to many ATI
options.......................
