I need a laptop but have discovered a bewlidering array of specs and processor choices. Based on a known benchmark in terms of useable performance from a P4 2.4/1024mb RAM/128mb nvidia 7200, how do the new mid range intel dual core mobile processors stack up (say a 1.6Ghz one)? Would I be looking at better performance? Clearly clock speed isnt the indicative factor here, or is it? Would be looking for a non integrated graphics card (will refer to sticky thread up the top of this forum for comparison) and 1024 ram.

Whats general thoughts on good brand, seen much praise for toshiba and Dell. What about Acer, have a good monitor from them but no indication of how good their laptops are, relatively cheap though.
