beeping every 5 seconds driving me crazy!

Please help before I go nuts! Since I installed XP SP2
update today (successfully, according to all messages),
my computer has begun beeping (very low background sound)
every 5 seconds!! The only way I have found to stop it is
to turn off the PC! Unfortunately, it comes back when I
turn back on. Any suggestions would be most welcome...
 
It is telling you that there is something seriously wrong with your
computer. You should immediately turn off your computer contact the
manufacturer and find out what a single beep every five seconds means. If
you do not, you risk permanent and/or critical damage to your computer.
 
One other thought...before you ask...software can not damage hardware....so
NO, SP2 did not damage your hardware in any way.
