becoming a windows vista beta tester

I have a friend interested in testing out vista on his very high end laptop
computer. Would it be possible for him to be able to do this? If so, how
would he go about the process of being a tester and obtaining the most
current copy of windows vista?

From my understanding, MS is not accepting any new connect testers for Vista. However, your friend will be able to test RC1 sometime during the next couple of weeks and file bug reports that your friend discovers.

At this point in time it is probably far to late.
However he will be able to get RC-1 when it is publicly distributed probably
within the next few weeks.
