BCM Add-In

Hi Folks,

Hoping someone can help me... I have Office 2007 Ultimate with BCM installed.

I run these apps on a laptop, and while I'm away I would just prefer to not
have the add-in running in outlook. If the BCM client can not find a server
it leaves outlook.exe running and in memory.

Therefore it helps drain my laptop battery a bit more than I need help with
already.

However, If I go into Tools, Trust Center, Click on an active component and
then hit the GO button for COM Add-In. The system shows me a list of add-ins
available. If I try to uncheck the box next to Business Contact Manager I
get the following error message:

"The connected state of Office Add-Ins registered in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE an
not be changed"

What does this mean? Does outlook need to be connected to the SQL Server
first to disable it?

Please advise

I would recommend you put your laptop in a suspend or hibernate mode and
leave BCM alone. Or, just decide that BCM is a part of Outlook and not to
worry about it. I would not disable BCM in the Trust Center and then enable
it again -- too much potential for big errors!

Hope that helps,
Lon

PS: Or, get a bigger battery!

Why do you say that modifying BCM can lead to potential errors?

Just curious as to your backgrounds or feelings on this statement... I
don't understand how it can affect the contents seeing how the SQL database
is shut down already.

I was not able to reproduce this on my laptop offline from the shared BCM
database. Are you running Windows XP or Vista?

Thanks!

I personally run XPpro with Office2007 Enterprise plus BCM and SBS2003r2
without any issues.
However, computers are not irons, so we always have many wrinkles.
I don't want to assume anything here.
Since you mentioned a server...

Are you connecting Outlook to an Exchange Server?
If so, which version? are Offline folders enabled?
Have you enabled email linking for the BCM?
Which version of windows are you running?

Please add anything you feel might help diag.

Thanks and I hope I can help.
