bcc and out of office reply

An employee where I work sent out an email that she bcc'd to her supervisor
and the supervisor was out of the office but did have her out of office
assistant turned on. All of the email recipients received a copy of her auto
reply. Why would this happen? Now all of the to: recipients know that she
was bcc'd on the email that was sent to all of them, which was not the
persons intention obviously since she used bcc! I didn't have an explanation
so I was hoping that someone could help me with this.
