Battlefield 2 (BF2 1.22)

I just installed build 5308 and BF2 + 1.22 patch. When I load up the game,
it shows the splash screen for a few seconds (just like it always did), then
switches to fullscreen. When it goes to fullscreen, the screen is just all
black and stays that way for about 3 seconds. It then unloads and goes back
to the desktop.

Has anyone successfully run BF2 1.22 on build 5308?

Anything I should look for to try to fix this problem, or is this purely a
compatibility issue? I wonder, is it because BF2 is trying to use DX9c, and
maybe DX10 is what's getting loaded?

Thanks

DirectX 10 (formely known as the Windows Graphics Foundation, WGF) hasn't
been fully developed yet and although some remnents of it is in Vista, it's
still not up to scratch. Check the game's manufacturer for Vista support, or
run the game's executable in compatibility mode with XP SP2 as that may help
)

To be honest Battlefield 2 has never been the most stable of games, even on
XP, and EA aren't the best company at reliably patching games either. I had
many many problems with BF2 on XP, so I am not surprised that your havign
problems with vista.

I dont have my BF2 cd at the moment, but when i get it back in a week ill
install it and try and validate the bug, if it doesnt work for me ill bug
report it.

Honestly, I don't think I'll bother looking at EA's site to see whether they
support Vista (now). For those of us who have been around BF2 1.0, we all
know how hard it is to get a decent patch out of EA, so I won't hold my
breath in them releasing any 'compatibility' patches.

I did try setting the Compatiblity mode to SP2 and unfortunately that didn't
work. Same behavior. Thanks for the tip though, I'll remember that for
other programs.

Thanks Ben. I appreciate the effort in confirming this for me. And yes, I
totally agree with what you said about EA and their patches.

The directX version should not be an issue, when developing DX9 applications
on vista, they work.
I tried BF2 on 5308 but it din't work. I din't install it on vista, but on
XP and just entered my regkeys manually and started the game from hd. Was
not working cause it was missing some DX9 files. BF2 aint using the standard
DX9 version but some of the SDK releases (think Feb2005)

DX9 and DX10 use different runtimes, so they should be able run at same time
without any problems.

No problems mate :) when it works i love BF 2 so i wanna play it too, and
tbh the best way of getting it working is making MS aware of the
compatibility bug cos EA will take more notice of them than they do lowly
old joe blogs in the public writing to support!

if the screen goes black for a second or more this means that the display
driver crashed and it restarted, together with the crash of the display
driver the game presumably crashed as well

Can't get BF2 to run on Vista build 5384 either. Gets to loading the server
then drops to the desktop.

Mine is doing that also. I just installed Vista so there are probably some
things I need to get used to, but I might guess it is some type of access
issue with starting a server.

I'm not running a server, but BF2 crashes to desktop about half thru loading
a mutiplayer map. Who knows.

I just downloaded the Nvidia Vista drivers and it seems to be better now.
The game started and ran OK, but not good yet.

Battlefield will run OK - Finally.
I had to reinstall twice but it finally started working Great!!
Encountered a problem with EA Downloader once.
It now runs at least as fast as in XP
Run Battelfield as Admininistrator
Don't run as XP
This worked for me.
Vista build 5384, ATI X1900XTX, 2GB Ram
