I very much doubt the OS would have any effect on the battery charging. If
you shutdown the laptop and plug in the mains the battery should charge, if
not it's either the battery or the charging circuit.
It could be that battery monitor software isn't installed
since your upgrade. Check the power settings in the control
panel to see if they are there but need to be turned ON.
[When I installed SP1, my desktop switched to laptop power
setting].
If no go, check with SONY for drivers or service.
