Basic Question

S

Simon Wigzell

I do the behind the scenes programming for a client who uses FP to manage
the text and images of the website. This morning I removed all the old files
and subdirectories and replaced them with the new website files. Now he
can't open the site in FP - it complains about a missing file frontpg.lck I
can't find this file in the backups I made. Any way around this for him?

I thought I'd try it myself -

How does one open an internet website with FP? This is a pretty basic
question! I've followed the directions - File/Open Web and type in the url
and it says "The folder http://www.[the domain name].com. isn't accessible.
The folder may be located in an unavailable location, protected with a
password or the filename contains a / or a \."

It is protected with a password, the server is anyway, of course it is.

Do what fundamental thing am I missing here?

Thanks!

The folder "http://Website" isn't accessible. The folder may be located on
an unavailable volume or protected with a password.

Never use a 3rd Party application to manage content of a FP enabled web site. Have the host
re-install the FP extensions.

Unless your client is familiar with using FP well,,,yer askin' for extra work. You might want to consider some kind of CMS for the site that way he/she won't be messin' with FP.
