I'm running XP on four PC's at home and have just used teh Network wizard to
set them up. I recently tried to add a friends PC to the network using the
same method and got an access error. I use HOME as the workgroup and on this
new PC I was told Home is not accessible you may not have rights to see this
workgroup.

I can access the Internet through my router/gateway and it's picked up a
suitable IP address. I can also ping other PC's and map drives using
\\192.168.0.x\C for example but cannot browse. the new PC is running Norton
Internet Security but I've disabled that and still get the problem.

If I add netbios as a protocol I do not get the error message, if I use any
other workgroup name I also do not get the error.

I need to be able to browse the local network for other people to use easily.

I'm confused. Any help would be appreciated.

Do you get an error number with the "... not accessible ..." error?

If you "do not get the error" are you able to actually access the files
required? Can you actually access the files required when mapping by ip
address?

Please provide ipconfig information for the problem computer, and for one
working computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, copy and paste into your next post.

Norton Internet Security (Norton Personal Firewall) has been known to NOT allow
access when disabled. One person has even reported having to un install NIS,
and NAV, using all Symantec un install procedures, before this problem was
resolved.

Cheers,
Chuck
Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
