BargainBuddy netut80ex. vxd

I downloaded MS Anti-Spyware program to see if it would
delete a BargainBuddy file netut80ex.vxd that Norton
Internet Security 2005 detected but couldn't delete. I
was very pleased that it cleaned this compressed file.

Thanks for the testimonial. In the case of either an Antivirus or Microsoft
Antispyware being unable to clean a detected file, I would recommend
restarting in Safe mode, by pressing F8 before the initial Windows screen
appears, and doing a full scan in that mode. This often is successful
because the executable processes locking the files are not active in safe
mode.

I did try running a scan in safe mode, but Norton would
not load. This was the first thing I tried, and I don't
know why Norton wouldn't open in safe mode. Do you have
any suggestions as to why this happened?

I would expect the Internet security portions of Norton not to load, but the
Antivirus portions certainly should--this is a standard part of their
instructions for cleaning some bugs--scanning in safe mode.

The ideal situation on a machine with a possibly compromised OS is to be
able to scan from a clean platform--i.e. a bootable maintenance OS.
Everything else is a compromise. I believe they will improve on this
functionality in Microsoft Antispyware before release.
