You can try www.dellauction.com I bought a couple of machines like
what you describea while back, although they are more like the 2.0 ghz
range now. There's one now with only 128mb ram for $185.

(watch wrap), although it closes soon, but that will get you to the
listing page. Be aware, that like most auctions, people bid them up
at the last minute. It seems to go in cycles, some times people bid
these up to where you could get a new one cheaper (low-end, but
cheaper), sometimes you can actually get one for a reasonable amount

Some have OS some don't

I'd say you may have better luck on e-bay looking for old equipment.

Thanks, I'm still trying one more thing to fix my PIII. It will just shut
down instantly with no warning. Got a new hard drive but that didn't fix it.
I'm thinking it may be overheating.
I cleaned all the dust out of the cooling fan and heat sink fins, and then
reapplied heat conduction paste.
I'll know soon I guess.

About our parasitic worthless govt. - you've probably seen or read
"Manufacturing Consent" (Book or DVD) by Noam Chomsky ?

PIII's were never really a heat producer, and some even had no fan
so I would be looking else where..maybe PSU related
strip it down to the minimums
CPU
1 stick of memory
video card

try and boot

I'm going to die rather sooner than I'd like. I tried to protect my
neighbours from crime, and became the victim of it. Complications in
hospital following this resulted in a serious illness. I now need a bone
marrow transplant. Many people around the world are waiting for a marrow
transplant, too. Please volunteer to be a marrow donor:

Guess what, that was the problem !

I removed the cooling fan and heat sink

Completely cleaned all the dust from it and the fan and put a new layer of
heat conducting paste between the heat sink and the CPU.
Before, I could only get a little over 2 hours computer run time and it
would just shut down (this same thing occurred 5 times doing the same thing)
like someone yanked the plug out of the wall.
Now I ran my computer 21 hrs straight - running the most CPU intensive
software I know of for 20 of the 21 hrs with no problem
So I'm pretty sure I got it licked !

By the way before I did the cleaning thing, it only took an hr for my bios
to warn me that I hit 122 deg F.
My shutdown temp is 158 deg F - pretty easy to imagine it hitting that temp
when in an hr it goes from 95 deg F to 122 deg F.

Thanks, It occurred to me that my PIII might be overheating and the BIOS
shutting down - especially beacause of the instant shutdown.
So I cleaned all the dust from my heat sink and fan as well as applied new
paste between rthe heat sink and CPU
and that seems to have fixed it !

Ran it 21 hrs straight and no shutdown - before it shut down in about 2.5
hrs !
