Bar Chart with Vertical Line

B

Barb Reinhardt

I have a Bar Chart with Character data in the Y axis and numeric data in the
X axis. I want to put a vertical line on the chart. I have reviewed Jon
Peltier's documents on putting horizontal and vertical lines on Column
Charts, but haven't been able to get it to work for Bar Charts. Can
someone assist?

Thanks,
Barb

Andy,

I've been able to put a horizontal line on a "Column Chart" (like your
example), but have not been able to put a vertical line on a "Bar Chart".
I'm using the Excel terms for charts here. When I put in the data on the
chart for the horizontal line and then change it to a "line" chart, the line
is drawn horizontally on the graph and the axis labels change. I have not
been able to get a vertical line on a bar chart at all.

You need to use an xy scatter instead of Line chart. This will then
allow you to get the vertical line.

Do you check the workbook. It has examples for column, bar and area charts.

When I first reviewed your site, it read like it was for Column Charts, not
Bar Charts. You may want to update that. I'm very hesitant to d/l anything
if it isn't obvious that it might be useful.

I'm still having difficulty. What I did forget to mention is that I have a
stacked bar chart. Should this still work?

You maybe right about the lack of detail on the web page, I'll add that
to my ToDo List :)

If you are still having difficulties you can privately email me you
workbook and I will take a look see.

Cheers

I got it to work, but I'm not sure I could explain what I did. Thanks for
your assistance.
