It looks as if you are quoting part of the Excel help entry for the COUNTA
function.
I suggest that you read the rest of that, including:
"Counts the number of cells that are not empty and the values within the
list of arguments. Use COUNTA to count the number of cells that contain data
in a range or array.

a.. A value is any type of information, including error values and empty
text (""). A value does not include empty cells.
a.. If an argument is an array or reference, only values in that array or
reference are used. Empty cells and text values in the array or reference
are ignored.
a.. If you do not need to count logical values, text, or error values, use
the COUNT function."

The Excel 2003 version of help has the usual "See also" link to point you at
related functions which may be relevant, and the Excel 2007 version of help
includes the specific comment:
"If you want to count only cells that meet certain criteria, use the COUNTIF
function or the COUNTIFS function."

If the answer is 7, there are 6 nonblank entries in the A1:A7 array, and
then the string "Two" is the extra to bring the total up from 6 to 7.

What data have you tried, what formula did you use with that data, what
answer did you receive, and what answer did you expect?
