Bad Power Supply?

I was reinstalling Windows in my machine when the machine died with no
sound or any burn smells; now I can't turn it on. Does this mean the
power supply went bad, or the motherboard, or what else?

Probably power supply. Especially if it does nothing at all when the front
panel power switch is pressed. -Dave

It can be either, but its much more likely to
be the power supply and thats cheaper to try.

Can also be the power cord, but they dont fail very
often at all. Even easier to try a different one tho.

The machine that went bad has a 24 pin connection to the motherboard; I
have another machine with a 20 pin connection; is it possible to
connect the 20 pin power supply to the bad machine withouth damaging
anything.

Thank you for your replies.

Have you bought any power supplies from them? Are they any good?
Their prices are very low.

No, I just put that link up to show you an example of the cable after doing
a web search. I usually don't buy online as I am a rather impatient (and
impulsive) buyer. I'd rather pay a little more for immediate possession,
besides I like to support my local (non-chain) stores if I can. I bought my
20-24 pin cable from someone local.

I just bought another power supply; I connect it, and when I turn it
on, nothing happens.

Time to buy a new motherboard.

Try it out of the case before you buy
one tho, you can get a short to case.
