bad keyboard?

Had a power failure at the house this morning. When power resumed, I found
three blinking green LEDs on my keyboard. They were CAPS LOCK, NUMBER LOCK,
and SCROLL LOCK.

When I went to draft an email, I couldn't type in the text or address area.

To work around the problem, I disconnected the keyboard DIN plug, and put an
old USB keyboard back in play. It works fine.

Do I assume my newer keyboard is now defunct?

Not based on what you've put in your e-mail. Why didn't you:
-- Restart the computer & see if it worked OK then?
-- Plug the new keyboard back in to see if it worked now?
It sounds more likely that you had a minor problem that either of the above
would probably have cured. But you didn't even mention whether it's a PS2
or USB or COM port keyboard, so ... all you can get is guesses.

If you plug it back in now, and it still won't work, then yeah, it's most
likely bad but I doubt it.

I turned the pc off and then back on. Then, I plugged the "bad" keyboard
back in. Got the three blinking LEDs again, and inability to write to
email.

I conclude bad keyboard.

Must have been marginal or something, and a power surge or spike got that
part of the keyboard, while other things went undamaged.

Thanks for the advice.

A PS2 kbd must be plugged in prior to powering up.
