Hi.
The Event Viewer shows some disk errors.
How can I locate the bad blocks and tell Windows XP not to use them?
Thanks in advance.

Do a backup of your data just in case, then run chkdsk /f in a command
prompt. If that solves the problem, great - if not, try chkdsk /r

Go to the hard disk manufacturer's web site and download their diagnostic software
respective to your hard disk. After the test, you will know if the hard disk is bad or
not..

Does it show that there are bad blocks? If so, Windows already is not
using them.

I'd still follow the others' advice and test the disk and even consider
replacing it. In previous versions of Windows and earlier hard disks bad
blocks were tolerated much better. Windows XP is very finicky about
hardware in general and the times I've had disks with bad sectors even
after a clean re-install of XP after flagging sectors bad with the HDD
manufacturer utilities, Windows XP does not run as smoothly.

I'm of the opinion that modern disks should not develop bad sectors and
if they do they should be replaced, especially if using Windows XP. If
the disk is under warranty contact the manufacturer about getting it
replaced.

That's why I posted the manufacturer diagnostics.

I know that Dave.

I offered my opinion and experience in support of the good advice you
and the others gave.
