BackWeb Client Error

Can someone help me?

I am getting the following error message when I start up by my PC.

"BackWeb Client"
"BackWeb is unable to access its data directory. Either the data directory
is in valid, unreachable or there is another instance of BackWeb accessing
it."

I also am getting "Start Menu (not reponding)" message when I try to use the
Explore function unsucessfully. I also am getting a similar message when I
try to use the dropdown arrow window under the file command unsucessfully.

Backweb is used by many well known software and hardware companies to update
their software and hardware, read the following link :

If you have scanned with a spyware tool it may have removed part of the
program hence why you are having problems, also HP computers have this
installed, find what piece of hardware or software is using backweb to
determine a suitable fix.

IMHO

Backweb is not good, whatever app or driver installed it you do not
need it. Logitech Mice for eg WTF do they need to access the internet
for? Kodak EZ Share is another that uses it (anything that claims to
be EZ Share has got to be dodgy in the first place). There is no
legitimate reason why you need a keylogger with internet access
installed without your knowlege or permission as part of some
application or other - this is spyware. I suggest you get rid of it
and the horse it rode in on unless you have a HP - PC which could
prove problematical cos some HPs come with Backweb pre installed as
part of the OS.

Some swear blind Backweb is legitimate and safe, Logitech and Kodak
for eg (well they would wouldn't they).

I had this thing on an HP Desktop PC I acquired at an auction and the
only way I got rid of it was to chuck the HP Windows XP version and
Mainboard in a bin and put a proper MS XP installation in on a new MB.

This may be backweb related but could possibly be complicated by the
latest MS updates, KB 908531 apparantly has a problem with some AV
clients and does a similar thing. Do you have a backup or restore
point you can try?

Can you remember exactly what you did before these problems turned up?

Backweb is not spyware, if companies like F-Secure are starting use it, it's
definatley is not spyware, its a push technology for clients with certain
hardware or software to update their products to ensure their customers have
the latest version.
