I want to do backups from my laptop to a network hard drive, so I'd like to
back up all of my personal documents in "My Documents." However, I see that
for example my Eudora information is not in "My Documents" but is intead in
an upper directory in "Documents and Settings". However I don't want to
backup my entire Documents and Settings folder because that contains lots of
(huge) temporary files.

So is there any good guidance on what actually to backup from Documents and
Settings\username?

Thanks.

I realize only I can make the decision as to a file's importance. However,
what I'm seeking is information as to what is actually contained in that
rather large folder, most of which I did not directly create. For example.
ntuser.dat. I have no idea what this is, if it's important, if it should be
backed up. The same with the "UserData" folder. I don't know what is in it
so I'm having trouble making the judgement call.

So what I'm seeking is an understanding of the contents of this directory.
I, of course, can make the call as to backing up "My Documents", but there is
no user documentation I can find that says what the other folders are.

Thanks.
