Backup Utility failed

Hello, I have Windows Home Premium and tried to use the backup utility
(using 'Backup Status and Configuration'), but always get the same error:

I've tried limiting the backup only to the system drive (I have 4
partitions), and logging only as admin (no other users logged on) on a
cleanly restarted machine, but still the same (not useful) message.

I'm on a new XPS M1710 laptop, and I have an 'EISA Configuration'
partition (I mention this regarding this post:
http://www.microsoft-tech.com/index.aspx?Content=22).

Any way I can turn on more verbose logging, so I can check which is the
file that's being used?

Regards,
Pablo

Pablo I assume you know that the backup utility is a file/data backup and
will not backup drives or partitions.

Have you tried disabling antivirus or any other internet security software?
This is an unusual error--I searched my archives and cannot find any
reference to this code.

If you can send me the following information, I can investigate this
further.

1. A description of the problem, including the exact error message and error
code (a screenshot will work)
2. A screenshot of your Disk Management screen showing disks and volumes.
3. Zipped contents of C:\logs\WindowsBackup\
4. Generate a log file using the instructions below and email it to me:

Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Asr,
create a new key called LogFileSetting

Under LogFileSetting, create a new DWORD value called EnableLogging.
Right-click that value, click Modify, and then enter 00000001 (hexadecimal)
or 1 (decimal)

Under LogFileSetting, create a new String value called LogPathName.
Right-click that value, click Modify, and then enter C:\asr.log.

Next, reproduce the error. You should have a file called asr.log under c:\.
You can delete the registry key when you are done.

Use my email address, minus "online."

Yup, I know. I'm used to do my backups using just rar and some scripts,
but I'd like to use a default installation and see if the software is
usable and has better performance.
