backspace key opens up a save as box

Hi
I am using XP home SP2.
When I am in a Windows based program and I press the backspace key I get a
save as box appear instead of deleting the letter that I have just typed, is
there a way that I can stop this.
If I use the backspace in Google for instance it does what it is supposed to
do.
