backround tracking?

recently some backround program is causing my pointer to flash busy about
every 10sec. I know I could go and turn off backround one by one till it
stops to find it, but was wondering if anyone had any other ideas or if
theres some program to make it easier? for now and future?

My guess would be the indexing service. Otherwise, you have the right
approach.

I also have this problem with one of my office computers. It is the only
computer that was updated with XP service pack 2. The others were also
updated, but we found too many problems and restored them using system
restore to run without SP2. Try uninstalling SP2. This problem only occured
since SP2 was installed.

amen to that don--I've already done that for similar reasons-was hoping
though that maybe all the fixes within xp2 would remain--dont know though--it
would only seem to make sense that the unistall program would leave
them--anyone know 'bout that?

Hi,

Uninstalling SP2 also removes any updates that were installed as part of
it - it was a package deal. The only updates that would be left behind are
those that were previously installed. You can use Windows Update to
reinstall the stand-alone versions of the critical ones you need.

thanx kelly, but i dont need to now--reinstalled xp for the umpteenth
time--know it sounds like a stupid solution, but each time i learn more what
not to do to keep my system clean--
