Backing up files from My Music

I have tried backing up my music files onto DVD's, which amounts to 40+ GB. I am using an NTI Backup Now! backup program. Unfortunately, the files all write to one large file and will not reflect the names of the artists, albums, songs, etc. I have put a lot of work into my Media Library, and I'd hate to lose the song information in my library if my computer were to crash. I need some type of backup method/program that will backup my files and reinsert them into Media Player should that be required. I am using XP Home Edition.

You're better off copying all of your files to DVD-R as data discs, and then
backing up your database.

You just set your burning software to create a "DATA" CD. This will allow
it to burn a copy of all the files in question to a blank disc in their
original format, whether it be mp3 files, wma or what ever. I'd strongly
suggest that you have a look to see if some other burning software came
with your burner- like Nero or Easy CD Creator. If not, here's a quick
overview of using Windows Media Player to create a data CD:
http://www.nwlink.com/~zachd/pss/pss.html#datacd

When I use my burning software to make backup copies of my music files (I
use Nero) I have it burn copies of entire folders, rather than of
individual music files. In this way, the contents of each folder (which
represents a full CD the way I organize things) remains intact. If you
choose to instead burn all of your individual music files to CD en masse,
you will find that the data disc you get will have arranged all of those
files numerically/alphabetically, meaning that all of the files starting
off with 01 in their title will be grouped together, followed by all the
02 files, etc.

Hope that helps,
Ian.

This is actually another question - I have an external harddrive that I would
like to copy my WMP library onto - when I "copy" to "drive E" it only
provides me with a shortcut to my WMP. I am obviously doing something wrong
- can anyone help?
