Hi,

I would like to install a new hard drive into my IBM
Aptiva computer. I am using outlook express 6.0. I have
taken the old hard drive out without removing any data at
all. It is completely intact. I have installed the new
hard drive and formatted it, then installed Windows 2000.
In the process of setting up my internet connection, I was
prompted to set up my mail account. I did set up the mail
account without any problems. I know would like to
restore all of may previous mail and address book from my
old hard drive. What do I need to do.

Thanks for your help

The easiest way to get your old data into the new Outlook Express would be
to import it. Use the following steps to import your data.

First you need to find your data on the old harddrive.
1. Open My Computer.
2. Go to Tools -> Folder Options and Select the View Tab.
3. Make sure "Show hidden files and folders" is selected and Uncheck "Hide
extensions for known file types".
4. Click OK.
5. Click on the Search button in the My Computer window.
6. Search the old drive for *.dbx . (all of the e-mail messages are stored
in .dbx files).
7. Write down the location of the files.
8. Now search the old drive for *.wab. (this file contatains contacts it is
the Windows Address Book file, it should be named after the account you
were logged on with when it was created)
9. Wriet down the location of the file.

Now we need to import these files into Outlook Express.
To import your data follow the steps in the article referenced in this
link, http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;270670.

I hope this information is helpful.
