Background Processes... ??

I'm running a new PC with Vista 32 and I'm wondering what sort of processes
are running in the background that account for the hard drive to always be
writing something. I have the Updater and Background Download service shut
off... and it's not defragging. I've disabled the Index Service... though
I've read that it will keep turning itself back on.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi ulTRAX,

Depending on your system configuration, there could be a number of reasons
for hard drive activity. You have already eliminated some of these reasons.
Others could be background scanning by Defender and/or your anti-virus (you
DO have one, don't you? If not, then this activity could be caused by malware
on your system) - you need to check the settings for these. Another
possibility could be caused by the amount of RAM in your system - less RAM
means more use of the Page File and hence more disk access.
