Background Processes??? (XP Pro)

A

Andy

Hi,
I've had my machine now for about 18 months running XP
Pro, for as long as i can remember when no applications
are running the CPU usage has always ticked over at 1%.
Recently i have noticed that it fluctuates between 2% and
5% and i've no idea why. I've tried every trick in the
book to find the reason (DeFrag/virus scan/spyware etc)
but all with no results, the system processes all seem
valid and i've run out of ideas, i realise 5% is not a
large percentage but relativly speaking its a 500%
increase. if something is running in the background i
sure cant find it!!!! If anyone has any suggestions they
would be much apreciated, many thanks, Andy.

Are you on broadband, continuously connected? It could be OE checking for
email.
