background disappears on some computers

I just created a website for our business
(portlandpudgy.com). I uploaded to my webhost, and when I
look at it on the Internet, it looks good on my computer,
on another in the office here, and on the computers of
some friends. BUT, a couple of other people who I've
asked to look at it say it's not working right.
The website is set up so that the index (first page) has
a background which is a photo of dark blue water. All the
other pages take the same background from the index page.
Most of the writing on all the pages is white, which
shows up well on the blue background. When no background
shows up, not only is the website ugly and boring, you
also can't read it, because the text is white and so is
the background. I need to get the background to show up
on all computers.
A strange detail is that with one of the computers where
it came up without the background, when the person
navigated from the first page to another page, and then
back again, the background appeared. This did not happen
however, with the other computer that didn't show the
background.
What could the problem be, and what can I do about it?

Debby,

That's because your background is linked to a file on your hard drive and
not a file on your web site so others won't see it. You have:

<body
background="file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Deborah%20Paley/My%20Docum
ents/My%20Webs/myweb12/alldark%20copy.gif" link="#E0683C" vlink="#E49568"
alink="#E5A375">

What you need to do is import the image into your web first and then choose
Format, Background and browse to the image that's in the web site (not the
one on your Hard Drive).

Also: Try to take as many spaces out of your image file names as possible.

Something you might also think about is the size of the
graphic file. Since it might take a while for some
connections to download the graphic, set the background
for all your pages to a color similar to the photo. At
least that way, visitors will see the text until the
graphic downloads to their computer.
