Background Colors and Shading

On documents in both Word and Excel that I am either
creating or have downloaded from my e-mail, I cannot view
any shading or colors on the screen. I am certain that
they are there because they print OK and when I
click "print preview", they look OK. I just cannot see
them while on the big screen, therefore, I cannot edit
them. For instance, if I were to fill in a box on Excel
w/ a yellow background, it would work, but I would not
see it on the screen. The same occurs when shading ovals
in the drawing feature or text box feature on Word.
Please let me know if I have accidentally hit something
or need to unlock something. Thank you.

The high contrast setting may be turned on. There's information in the
