Backend is lost

Hello
my backend table disappear how can i locate it, I desperately need help on
this.

I notices about 3:40pm on 3/15 after i did a compact and repair that the DB
was not there, the frontend will not open. how can i retrieve it back.

When you say the front end wont open, do you meant that the forms wont open
but the Access does open? If so follow below.

Re-link the Back End by selecting from the tools menu at the top of the
Access Screen

Tools\Database Utilities\Linked Table Manager

From the popup menu
Tick the always prompt for new location check box. Press select all button,
press ok and point the open front end to the Back End Table locations.

Thanks Mike,

What i meant to say that the front end will not open at all. The backend of
the DB was deleted i guess, i can not find it on my harddrive .

I follow what you wrote, but after pressing OK and pointed to the open front
end nothing happen. it just beeps within that area the frontend is there not
the backend. How can i copy from the linking table manager.

That is a big problem, you only have a couple of options here.

1. its no good pointing the linked table manager to your front end, the
tables do reside in the front end.

2. Is your back end on a network drive? If so, is there a backup of the back
end on the backup tape your IT Department runs? Ask them to restore the
backend tables for you. Alternatively, search for all *.mdb files on your
network drive. The files you are looking for should be the same name as your
front end with _be.mdb on the end.

3. If the Backend is on your local drive and you have deleted it, there is
only one chance that I know of which might enable you to find it. Take a look
in the recycle bin on your desk top and see if its there.

4. If the file has been moved but not deleted and your problem is, you cant
find it. Try running a search in Explorer and search for all files and
folders on C:\ Drive with the file name of *.mdb This will give you a list of
all MDB files on your hard drive, is it there? (See 2 above for the file you
are looking for)

Failing any of the above, I have no more options for you, once deleted, the
computer closed and re-booted, the files are no longer available to us mere
mortals.

Sorry Point 1 should have read

1. its no good pointing the linked table manager to your front end, the
tables do *NOT* reside in the front end (if they have been split off as a
back end.) (Forgot the word NOT)

thanks Mike,

i follow option 2, and found an older backend from last year. if i link the
data from last year will it retrieve my records that was put in this year? I
do not know what to do i also submit an email to IST department asking can
they restore the backend starting at the begining of the week 2/12, I have
about 13,000 records in this database.

I'll keep my fingers cross or pray for a miracle.

Hi again Bessie, sorry but no, the data you entered recently wont appear in
the database backend from last year, so lets hope IT can restore a more
recent version for you.

An option you might employ, is to back up your back end every so often just
in case this happens again.

This is a big lesson learned i will backup every week if IST can restore my
documents.

Is there a file called db1.mdb in the folder where your back-end was.
If so rename it to your original back-end filename and try that.

Just to be on the safe side I'd copy it and rename the copy. Never
touch the original until you *know* it's safe.

Thanks for everyone help

IST restore the file and now i have my documents. what I did I added a
inactive yes/no box to minimize the files that we have no use for.
