Desperate

I have a very stupid question but it is one I dont know
the answer to so I am going to ask.

Running XP Pro: If I make a back up (using the built in
back up utility) of certain files on the computer, does
that mean I can put them back on the system after it is
formatted?

I know dumb question but my Dad is "nuking" (his term)
the computer tonight and I dont want to lose all my music
and some other more personal files that I have hidden on
the computer.

Hopefully some one can help me with this before he goes
ahead.

Yes, that's one of the ideas of making backups, so you can restore the files
after you format the computer. You will have to back them up to media other
than the drive your going to format, such as another drive or CD-R's.

sure , check what you want to back up , then after the
install you can restore it.. If your system has sp1 on it
now then make sure you update back to sp1 before you try
to re-install or it will fail.
