Back-Up utility

I have been unsuccessful in finding a freeware back-up program for my
needs.

I use a second hard-drive to store back-up data. I want the utility to
NOT store the data in a compressed file since I will only be backing
up a dozen or so specific files. I want to be able to go to the
back-up directory and look see what's there anytime I want.

I would like for this utility to run upon shut-down of windows so that
I don't have to manually back-up or lose possible data on a daily
scheduled back-up.

I would like this utility to have options of incremental, etc types of
back-up.

I would like for the utility to "know" ahead of time what are some
important files to back up and where they are located because I have
no idea where many of them are: eg Outlook express address file,
registry, documents. Also to be able to add specific files to the
back-up list eg Quicken data files, quotations database, etc.

If there are no freeware utilities that do this, perhaps someone could
suggest a commercial one.

Thanks

Try the free program EZBack-it-up at http://www.rdcomp.net/ezbackitup/index.php
I've used it for a couple of years now without problems.

From the screenshots it does not appear to be able to back up upon
shut-down of windows. I think this is a serious flaw in back up
programs. Theoretically one could have a crash, harddrive failure or
corrupt file BEFORE the schedule time for back-up in which case all
data produced just prior to that point would be lost.

It doesn't "know" the important files ahead of time, but try Karen's
Replicator

http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp

And as for not being ' automatic ' all I have done is got into the
habit, of having made significant changes to anything like Quicken or
creating a new document, of following up immediately by clicking on
the Replicator activation icon.

Following a recent main drive collapse, it certainly worked for me.
She has some other nifty freeware utilities on her site, too.

For Outlook Express, try Outook Express Quick Backup by Majik
