B1 is blank if A1 is zero

I am trying to format B1 as blank if A1 equals 0. I have tried conditional
formatting and "IF" function and I can not get this to work. Can someone
please tell me how to do this?
 
Mike, thanks for your help. That works for that particular cell. But, each
item in B2, C2, D2, (etc) is a different item and depends on if A2, B2, C2 is
also zero. Do I need to format each cell seperately? This is a list of
