B&W Text Screen Halts XP Pro Boot

All was well with my HP1G with XP Pro until I installed a Sony DRX-530UL external DVD recording drive via USB. Now, whenever I boot the machine, the first blue HP screen pops up as always, but then I get a NEW B&W text screen which provides informtion about my motherboard and its serial number, the processor speed, the amount of RAM installed, the USB keyboard, USB mouse, keyboard, and USB legacy support, data about my 2 internal harddrives, and info about my 2 internal CDROM drives. At the bottom of this screen is the sentence "Press F1 to Resume." The boot process halts until I actually press the F1 key. This is time consuming and cumbersone, not to mention just outright annoying.
I called Sony tech support, and they suggested removing the external DVD recorder drivers by going through Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, System, Hardware, Device Manager, CDROM, and Uninstall to remove the new Sony DVD driver. I did this, but I still get the B&W 'Press F1 to Resume' screen.
Can anyone help me get rid of this encumberance?
Thanks in advance for both slogging through this long disertation, and perhaps providing some help.

Yes, I agree, disconnect the external device, then
uninstall the drivers, reboot keeping the device
unplugged, then plug it in, see if XP loads it's own
drivers, if not start by using the provided disc from the
DVD and run it again, after that reboot, if your still
having the same issue I recommend you go to the Sony site
and see if there is a firmware update for that drive,
best of luck and hope the encumberance goes away
