B.S.O.D. need help!

Ok This B.S.O.D. is really making me mad. Within the past couple of weeks,
every time I restart the computer or turn it off or even some times when I
don't do anything to it, a B.S.O.D. appears and has to be restarted. It
seems to have something to do with the internet because the windows will load
with the cable cord unplugged but if its plugged in, then it will crash again
and continue to crash upon loading until the cord is unplugged. Also, i
think it has something to do with a device driver but im not completely sure.
Help would really be appreciated.

Without knowing the STOP code (0x000...etc.) and/or the name of the error (IN_CAPS_LIKE_THIS) nobody can do anything for you.

If you are using a Creative Sound Blaster Live, Go in Safe Mode and
Uninstall Sound Blaster from Device Manager under Sounds and Video and Game
Controllers.
Reboot and see if it boots ok with the cable plugged in. If it does,
download the newest driver from Creative Labs.

What type of internet connection? Router or modem?
Make and model?

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click
on the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties,
Advanced, StartUp and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck
box before Automatically Restart.

Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure until you have
resolved the problem. Check for variants of the Stop Error message.

Are there any yellow question marks in Device Manager? Right click on
the My Computer icon on your Desktop and select Properties. Hardware,
Device Manager. If yes what is the Device Error code?

Try Start, Run, type "sigverif.exe" without quotes and hit OK. What drivers
are listed as unsigned? Disregard those which are not checked.

Hope this helps.

f78d2bf0, parameter4 f78d28ec.
Your error code is named SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED and the
parameter1 value indicates that this was caused by a
STATUS_ACCESS_VIOLATION

Unfortunately the error message fails to identify the specific device
driver or other file involved. However the symptoms you describe
"windows will load with the cable cord unplugged but if its plugged
in, then it will crash again and continue to crash upon loading until
the cord is unplugged." indicates that it could be the drivers for
your network card that are causing the problem. Try updating these
from the card manufacturer's web site. Another suspect might be your
Internet firewall software, as this may become active when the network
connection is detected. So if the updated network card drivers do not
resolve the issue the next step would be to temporarily uninstall
whatever firewall software you have, or at least disable it if it has
that setting available, and see if that resolves the issue. You can
use the built-in Windows XP firewall to protect your computer from
outside attacks while your other firewall is shut off.

Good luck

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am trying them right now. There are no
question marks in device manager that I tell. I am not using Creater Sound
Blaster Live, so thats not the problem. I will check on the network card
and driver to see if it is working properly and the firewall as well. The
make and model of the router, well i cant quite remember the make and model
but I do believe it is linksys because of the service provider installed it
and frequently uses linksys but i do have a wireless router as well and it is
d-link if that is anything. I will do some more researching but so far, ive
only had 1 B.S.O.D. after restarting almost 10 or so times. Again, thanks
for the help.

Yes since often the bad one has stepped on the one that fails. In earlier versions of windows verifier.exe would trap it but verifier no longer works, leads to a reboot loop. I have aked many times if there is a workaround but nobody here seems to have an answer. I suppose there is none, what a shame!

OK. I was going the device drivers, looking at them more in depth. I tried
to update my networking driver but couldn't find the specific one that I was
sure was it so I didn't do it. What I did do was I clicked the option to
scan for hardware changes. A box popped up saying something about my printer
driver. After following a few steps, a b.s.o.d. appeared again and I had to
restart the computer. This leads me to conclude that the printer driver is
the problem. Am I correct? I will check on a new printer driver as well.

You need to know make and model when checking to update drivers! Vague
suggestions that it might be this or that unfortunately do not help,
