I've been wondering when the next update was coming out.
You mean this one.

Reference Number : SE1R29 05.03.2005

I keep updating and ad aware don't seem to save the update after its
downloaded

I went through this, too. It's a known issue with this update. Something
about it not "sticking." The solution is to exit the AdAware program,
then go to Downloads at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/, download the latest
(zipped) definition file, then finally unzipping it and placing it in
the Program Files\Lavasoft\Ad-aware SE Personal folder (overwriting the
old defs.ref file). When you next open AdAware, you should find it updated.
