AvpM.exe appears when I run Task Manager (and is pretty
active). I have Kasperski anti-virus software installed
but it tells me there are no viruses on my computer. Is
it safe to delete this file?

Deleting the file does little. You will still need to clean the virus from
your PC. If "Kasperski anti-virus" doesnt see that it is a virus, you might
consider using a different antivirus.

touted as being one of the best out there, so I'm
surprised. Is it possible this AvpM.exe file is not a
virus? All references I've seen on the virus are in
higher case letters - AVPM.exe. I presume avp stands for
anti-virus-program?

Avpm.exe is the Kaspersky executable, it should be running. This would be
normal, expected behavior.

Not quite, the virus attempts to disable that file. Why? Simple, the bug is
coded to try and disable known antivirus software, and avpm.exe is the
kaspersky executable.

Thanks to both of you for your help. I suspected this may
be the case, but as an illiterate needed confirmation.
Can rest easy now, knowing what that file (which keeps
using my processor resources)is really doing!
