.avi not a valid win32 application when double-click

i've got some .avi video clips and when i tried opening them the normal way
(double-click) i get this popup error saying the file is not a valid win32
application. However, the file is able to play if i Right-click it and then
choose the program to open/play.

What is the problem here? thanks!

Toggle the association. Open Media Player, Options, FileTypes tab, uncheck
the AVI box, Apply, restart WMP, and recheck the box, Apply, restart WMP.
