Hello! I recently tried to import an .avi file into my WMM. It prompted me to
download a codec. I did so. But the file still gives me the same error
message: The file C:\Documents and Settings\Maria\My
Documents\Xenosaga\opening.avi cannot be imported because the codec required
to play the file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried
to download and install the codec, close and restart Windows Movie Maker, and
then try to import the file again.

The file plays just fine in Media Player, but I can't put it into WMM. Help!

I have had this issue come up in the past, and for no good reason that I
could figure out since the codec was obviously there, and my fix was to
download Windows Media Encoder from Microsoft.
Open the AVI file with Media Encoder and then simply close it. This will
reindex the AVI file and should/could make it work in Movie Maker.
