I'm bringing this back up in hopes that I can correct some of you.... Not
to.... you know... try to sound better than all of you, but I needed to get
something straight because it appears that some of you may have misunderstood
what the Sympatico Security Manager is. Its a downloadable program from
Sympatico (at a monthly premium of about $10, but with that 10, you also get
an upgrade to a 5Mbit/s connection from just 3Mbit/s) that has a virus
scanner, ad/spyware scanner, phishing (detector thingy), scam detector
(detects fake websites that try to get your password), and firewall..... I
think some of you may have thought it was something else. That's fine... Now
that you know, maybe I will get different opinions on the subject. Here's the
original post:

I have the choice of d/l Sympatico Security manager and getting rid of AVG
free. But I'm a big "low memory usage" kind of guy and am wondering, how much
of a load (memory- wise) does Security Manager add to my system, and, if thee
are my only two choices for anti-virus scanners, which would you choose?

Well, unless someone is a customer of Sympatico, they can't make any
comparisons, can they? How are we supposed to know enough details of their
security manager to know what it's components technically consist of?

You're asking for opinions and opinions is all you will get. In the end
you will have to make the decision. $10 more a month for two more MBs of
bandwidth isn't a bad price. What's the upload speed? Which anti virus
does Sympatico use? Which firewall?

I just went to "Sympatico's" web site and, lo and behold, it belongs to
Microsoft now so I suspect you will get Windows Live One Care and
Defender. Wolf/hen house.

I would *never* trust my computer's security to an outside corporation.
I would choose, install, and configure security tools of my own
selection, rather than turn over control of my computer to another.
