AVG 7.0 runs a daily complete test despite not being listed in scheduled
tasks. How can I stop this from happening?

In the control centre in the scheduler tab make sure 'enable scheduled
tests' is unchecked

got it - the sequence is to select scheduled tasks in scheduler and
disable all scheduled scans - thanks

Trendmicro's housecall allows a selective scan? I could find no such
feature in avg home edition ..
Is there such a feature? If so how does one do it?

right click AVG sys tray icon...select "run AVG anti Virus" top control bar
select "Tests" select "Custom Test"

I have uninstalled avg . .. but within a day or two I will reinstall and see
I can either send you a screenshot or describe how one achieves it. I found
it easy, and I am a novice novice. If I remember correctly, after you
download it and load you ar prompted to scan...when you scan it allows you
to expand a windows explorer like tree where you can select or not select
folders and sub folders for scanning
