i been having problems with memory of late. i have a total physical
memory or 256. i really don't use my computer for very much, games
and internet. anyhow my system is tell me that i have almost all my
physical memory used up i havent seen my avaibale physical memory
above 60 in the last week. i can't find the problem and when i close
down programs things freeze up. i don't know very much about
computers so someone please help.
Ok, the other comments about how 256mb is a little low are correct, but
ignore the fact that you seem to have been managing just fine with it up
until recently. The amount of memory installed is therefore probably not
your biggest problem. That figure for available memory is probably the
figure that you've always had - Windows tries to use all your memory for
something or other, and diverts it for use in different places as needed...
aside from a small reserve amount perhaps, unused memory is wasted memory.
These freezes - do you remember making any changes to your system round the
time they started happening, and can you describe what kind of programs
you're trying to close down and how you are trying to close them when you
experience the freeze?
What does this freeze look like - does the entire system sit there doing
absolutely nothing at all, or does it run incredibly slowly, or what? Do you
get garbage appear on the screen?
Have you ran a scan with up to date antivirus and anti spyware tools?

I'm always surprised at "professionals" who STILL have to be asked "Have you
checked (event viewer / syslog)".
