Availability of Outlook 98 upgrade

B

Bob Bucy

I am an Office 97 user from way back, and still use it on
my primary home desktop. My wife and I have purchased a
new laptop, and the Office 97 Professional license
agreement allows use on your personal laptop. On my
desktop, I upgraded to Outlook 98 when it came out, but
did the download instead of the CD. I now wish to
upgrade to Outlook 98 on our laptop but cannot do so.
Outlook 97 obviously had a lot of shortcomings, and is
really not very usable. Does anybody know where I can
get an Outlook 98 upgrade CD. I have the downloaded
installation files, but that goes to a site that
Microsoft has taken down. I would appreciate any help
that anyone can offer.

Outlook 98 download was withdrawn in 2000. You cannot get it anymore as it
has been superceded by 3 newer versions.

Bob--I am confronted with the same problem. The best solution I've been given is to search for an Old Book that came with the Upgrade CD and pray it is still with the book. I'm still searching! John

I have looked for a while as well and cannot find any books. If you have a
local bookstore that has older computer related books, you will probably
find it faster.

After all that effort, it may just be worthwhile to purchase Outlook 2003 -
it is loads better and you will have saved yourself some time. Personally,
I value my time away from work and hate having to spend it trying to find
something online or at retail.

Old copies of Outlook 98 show up on eBay occasionally but they have become quite rare. All in all though, you and your wife would probably be happier with a later version of Office.

If you or someone in your family qualifies* you might want to consider Office XP Student and Teacher Edition. It includes Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, and Excel . The 3 machine license is a good deal for families and you can pick up the Office XP version at places like Staples fairly reasonably right now.

Er, make that Office 2003 Students and Teachers Edition - Office XP STE is a
single installation license only.

I guess Bob and JMoore will have to read the box. Office 2003 may not run on the machine he is using for Office 97 -- although it will probably be fine on the new laptop.
