AV programs again

Like most folks I am fed up with NAV and want a change.

I know there are freebee AV progs around but keeping them up to date seems
to me to be a continuing effort, so how can anyone do this for free?

TIA

Avast is free, and can be set up to auto-update:

Avast is better. I have been using it for
3 months and it has automatically updated
itself every day for the last week. I auto-updated
a few minutes ago. I believe Avast is the best
AV program I have ever used. I have never paid
for one and have used 10+ AV programs.

It is now 5:38 AM, EST. Avast just automatically
upgraded itself. This is twice in the last 12-18 hours.
Not bad. I never saw this in AVG. I will consider buying
a paid version because it has been so good. Like I
said, I have never paid for any version of AV software.

Both AVG and Avast! can do this. The latter is probably the most hassle free
one.

Andri et all,

AVG does so, and they are quite fast in updating. Being on DSL I have
set the update manager to check for updates every day, and most of the
time (6 days out of 7) there are updates for the program's anti-virus
information database (avi). Also I must add that AVG behaves very well
with FoxMail. Last week when one of my eMail addresses was swamped with
Sober.P infected messages AVG caught them all.

AVG's update isn't a hassle, at least not if you use the automatic
update; but then... you wouldn't need the files from either grisoft.com
or majorgeeks unless your system is infected with one of those viruses
that will block access to anti-virus sites...

Thank you all for the responses. I already posted this days ago but it
hasn't
appeared on my server.
