Autoupdating

Craig

A year-old Dell computer was re-formatted yesterday and WinXP pro was
re-installed.
Everything is working fine so far. I set "autoupdate" (for WinXP) under
Autoupdate tab.
I left my computer on-line on allnight (to enable automatic downloading of
WinXP update files), but no autoupdating icon was visible in system tray.
So id did not do automatic updating. That means, I must do update manually,
which is inconvenient to do.

I am wondering what is missing. Could someone advise me where to check for
autoupate? Satoshi.

Suggestions:
--Using the administrative tools, check that services related to Windows
Update and Internet Time checking are enabled.
--Visit Windows Update at least once manually. There is probably an update
to the Windows Update engine that you have to OK to install.
--Synchronize your time with the internet: double click clock in tray area.
On Internet Time page, click Update Now.
--Check that you have scheduled XP to download and install and that the
day/time selected has occurred.

auto updates may not want to work if you have a password on
your administrator account. you have to set password to
allow updates to happen and install.
