AutoText Button in Header and Footer Unavailable

Why would it be that when working in the header and footer, that on the
Header and Footer toolbar the Insert AutoText button is
grayed-out/unavailable? All of the other buttons on the toolbar are fine
except that one. Any ideas?!

Presumably because there are no autotexts formatted in the header footer
style - and the usual reason for that is an attempt to create a normal
template other than by allowing Word to create it (which is the only way
such a template can be created) thus eliminating the standard entries. If
you rename normal.dot to normal.old, the standard entries should be
available.
