autosum question

Hi there!

I have a question about the autosum function. I have a co-worker wh
says that she is suddenly unable to use this function in a manner tha
she always have. She highlights a group of cells (say G20:G25), an
then hits the autofunction icon. She is surprised when cell G2
dispays a value that if found in cell G15 (cells G16-G19 are blank)
and the formula shows G15:G19. Cell G21 then has formula G16:G20, an
so on. What she expects is that the formula will only reside in cel
G25, and will be =SUM(G20:G24).

I tried to explain to her that Excel will attempt to find values to us
in the auto formula, but she is insistent that this should work as sh
expects.

I use autosum all the time, although I select one cell, hit the autsum
and then adjust my selection if necessary. If I try to do as sh
explains (with no data anywhere other than the highlighted cells), th
formula displays in the FIRST selected cell as =SUM().

So, did autosum work in the way she describes at one time?

Thanks for any response.;

By highlighting a range and then hitting Autosum, Excel goes and finds the most
logical sum equation for each row or column selected.

To get a formula in G25 to sum G20-G24, select just G25 and then hit autosum.
Adjust formula as needed
