autoshapes - I'm unable to get rid of them by selecting and delet.

I've come across several "dots" throughout my worksheet that I've discovered
are Autoshapes. When I attempt to delete them (select and "delete"), they
remain. Ideas, please!

you could try
edit / goto / special / objects and then press the delete key ...
