For some reason everytime I try to change the settings in
autosave they never take. It will work fine while I'm
working in the same worksheet but as soon as I close it
out the settings are gone. Does anyone know how to make
this autosave feature work properly?

I have the same problem with Excel 2000 autosave settings not being retained. I've downloaded all the Office 2000 upgrades but I still have this problem.

If you get the latest patches from Office Update this should be fixed.

I know that I shouldn't have this problem if I have all the upgrades but I do. I have checked several times to make sure I have all the upgrades and I do. I still can't change my autosave settings. What else can I do?

I really do appreciate you trying to help me but I'm fairly VBA illiterate and I don't really know what to do with the information on your link. Do I then have to uninstall and reinstall Office 2000? If I do could I still have this problem? Maybe I'll just have to live with it as I have so many other Office bugs I've encountered.

I am unable to change my autosave settings and am considering using the auto safe app you recommend. How can I remove autosave completely so I can use the other application?

Tools menu > Addins, uncheck the box next to it in the list. I don't
think you need to bother completely removing it.

This is the crux of the problem. When I uncheck autosave, the next time I close and open Excel autsave re-activates itself. The only way I know how to solve this particular problem is to remove it. Is there anything else I can try first?

Close excel
search for autosave.xla
move it to a different folder.

Next time you open excel, it should complain that it can't find it.

Then you can try to select it in tools|addins and it'll ask if you should delete
it from the list.

On the other hand, I've never seen it start except when you tell it to.

Any chance you have a "helpful" macro that's trying to control the autosave
addin?

Thanks Dave, your tip did the trick. I removed the autosave.xla file and when it asked me if I wanted to reinstall I just reinstalled from the CD and now it works fine. Thanks again for your help.
