Autosave in Office 2003

In Office 2000 there was the autosave feature which worked great, now in
Office 2003 it was replaced by the autorecover feature. I have done searches
in google and in this office newsgroup and all say pretty much the same thing
really not answering why the autosave was taken away. And alot of references
point to Jan Karel Pieterse's addin called AutoSafe. Does anyone know the
actual reason why the autosave feature was replaced and taken away altogether
in Office 2003? Thank you!

It's not gone. The autorecover feature is a Word feature as you are using
Word as your e-mail editor. Autosave still saves to your Drafts folder.

Thanks, knew that about Outlook 2003, but what about Excel, PPT, and Word
specifically, autosave no longer there, autorecover is now?

What is the issue with AutoRecover? An issue I can think of with AutoSave is
when people start editing an original document and basically use it as a
template and then save it under a different name. AutoSave would have wacked
the original document; AutoRecover does not.

You'll get better answers to this in the newsgroups for the other apps. I
know Excel's autosave was an addin and it was somewhat annoying and I wrote
my own. I thought Words was an addin too - but it's been so long since I
used old versions and like excel, writing a better save routine was easy.
