No. Does not work. And it is not the regular Autoplay window with the
list of icons, like play music and open the folder etc. that comes up.
It's different.
I cannot grab the window, as it is too quick.
It does not have any text in it, just a progress bar (moving) and the
title "Autoplay"
It's like the comp is running some service or startup that has it's
own autoplay function.

I put a little movie on the net, so you can see exactly what is
happening:

www.terwiel.com/diversen/popup.avi

On the right side you see Process Explorer running.
When the popup appears (after 15 seconds) you can see windows explorer
and csrss become a bit more active.

The popup appeared maybe 10 or 20 seconds after completing the boot.
I put the capture program and Process Explorer in Menu->All
Programs->startup.

The central window ActiveSmart is not relevant.
Popup appeared long before I installed that program.

The capture program is BB Flashback 1.5
Very neat huh ?

AAA, if I set the NoDriveTypeAutorun key to 0x20, then the popup does
not appear. However, neither does the popup when I insert an autorun
CD.
So, the question is now, why some program interrogates the CD players
at irregular intervals, but also a few seconds after completing the
startup.
And how to stop it...

It makes no difference if I start with an autorun CD in the drive...

With help, I found a solution:
In the registry ther is a key NodriveTypeAutorun.
you can set this for CD players and/or HD's.

It seems, the system is trying not to autorun a CD,
BUT A HARD DISK (or 2)
I dunno why, suddenly, but when I set the parameter to 0x8, it does
not autoplay anymore.

Questions reamin:
Why was the value 0 in the first place ?
Is there a trojan or virus that did that ?
Is the value 8 on your system too ?

put this in a .reg file and run it (everything between the lines):
---------------------------------------------
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:00000008
